Day Nineteen: worship and art

During a worship service I went to, we were given the opportunity to use crayons, pastels, and paints as a medium to worship. I took advantage of it and this is what came out!

Day Eighteen: new and fabulous veggies... make appearance in pie?

In our house's weekly veggie box, we ended up with some rhubarb! I was excited because I'd never eaten it before... I happened to have bought frozen blueberries a few weeks earlier as smoothie additions, so I found a recipe to put the two summer fruits together into a heckofa pie. And it was a heckofa pie! I was fabulously surprised at how beautiful and tasty it turned out... mmm.

Day Seventeen: fabric paint and frisbee

On another note, I'm going to Washington this weekend to play in the regional championship with my ultimate frisbee team! It's gonna be a blast. I fashioned some D'VINE gear, of course, for my buddy Ashley.

Day Fifteen: doodles.

(my favorite doodle)!

This one's rather self-explanatory. You ever have those classes that you dislike so strongly that you'd rather eat chalk while watching paint dry than sit through? Well, I decided that rather than feel those horribly destructive feelings while in that class, I'd channel my creativity onto the reader through drawing whatever came to mind.

Day Fourteen: color.

I added some color to the painting of daffodils I did last week! Played with mixing colors, dabbing with a sponge, and adding some sea salt. I think there is nothing more relaxing than mixing colors together.

Day Thirteen: playing with pictures.

Could be a starbucks ad. We like coffee.

Day Twelve: cupcakes round two!

Being a music nerd myself, and a sucker for musicals, I'm a wee bit of a Glee fan and of course had to celebrate tonight's premier of the second season somehow. As soon as I rallied up my roommates to watch the show all together, I decided that cupcakes would be the perfect addition to the party. These are "golden" cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting... so fun to make, and even more fun to eat. :)

Day Eleven: bringing back the crayons

Yeah, that's right. Twenty years old and I still whip 'em out from time to time. You call it juvenile, I call it color. I wanted to send a letter to a friend, and I used the crayons to decorate the front a bit, but the real dillemma presented itself in the form of a discovery that I had used up all my envelopes... WHAT NOW?! Being the retired girl scout that I am, I quickly got resourceful and ripped out two sheets of paper from a notebook. Blank, of course. Wouldn't want to waste those darn good notes I take in class on something like this...
Anyways, I folded and tore and glued until I had what functioned as an envelope. Lined paper is not so pretty by itself, so my crayons clutched between my fingers saved the day.
I made the mistake of sending off the letter before I could picture-ize it. Ah, well. I'll leave this one to your imagination. Ha! Imagine that.

Day Ten: sketching in the sunshine

Like I said, I got to sit in an actual class at Westmont college and sketch with the pros! The best part: we did this outside! There's something I could get used to!

The professor showed the students how to use the pen to sketch and then add water to it for shading. We used pencil, the pens, water, and charcoal to get the effect... Also were working on "negative space!" I learned lots and lots, including to not be so confining in my drawing. ;) Thanks again, Jules!

*will post picture soon*

Day Nine: paper art

For a few days in the beginning of Spring Break, I did the five hour drive down to the beautiful Santa Barbara to spend time with my long-time and very wonderful friend Julia. Naturally, being an art major, she was more than happy to supply me with supplies with which I could create amazing masterpieces.

Alright, so I folded a bit of pre-cut paper into the shape of a flower and then wrapped a bit of floral tape around the stem... easy project, but fun and very cute. You can see she'd already made a few in the background of the picture. But what if you love daffodils and you cannot grow them inside? Thus- the paper variety.

Thanks, Jules!

Hmm.

I was creative tonight! I wanted to send a card to a friend, but I did not have an envelope, so I went ahead and made one. It's nothing fabulous, and it looks like a kindergartner could have made it, crayon decorations and all, but it was a fun time for me. Tearing paper and playing with color is just really relaxing to me.

Still no camera... I realize that nobody actually likes reading blogs without pictures to spice it up, so pictures will be sure to come soon, and then you can see the various things I did over break. :)

In Response to Recent Lackings

So, it is spring break, and you'd think that would mean I has unending time to be creative, right? In another world, perhaps... Somehow circumstances have been rough for having space to be creative- which maybe means I'm just not being creative enough to see how I can be in the midst of all that's going on! But my excuse for not posting lately is that I've slept in about three different places over the last week, and have not had access to materials or camera.

However... be patient! I went down to santa barbara to visit my best friend earlier in the week, and she happens to be an art major. Convenient for my purposes! I followed her to her sketching class and got to sit outside with her and sketch nature. Will post results as soon as I find a camera... :)

I comandeered some acrylic paint and paintbrushes my mom found while cleaning out a drawer! Pretty excited about that. Now, if only my parents would let me start a fabulously messy project in the middle of a house they're getting ready to sell. Yeah right!

Day Seven/Eight: watercolor!

I'd been dying to paint these beautiful daffodils since I started this project... wh-la! Attempted, and not bad for a first try! Unfortunately, weather was not as lovely today, so I set up shop inside instead.

Day Six: green smoothie?!!

Mmm... yes, that is fully a green smoothie. Made of one banana, three strawberries, some almond milk, ice, anddddd... spinach!! Oh wow, so good, even if it looks awful. First time I've ever made one of these. Super healthy- will be good for my ultimate practice later today! :)

Day Five: Nail Polish?

Today, creativity was crammed into the last 15 minutes before bedtime. I'll thank mister raincloud for this one: it's rained the last two days, making my toes retreat back into the confines of tennis shoes. I don't know if it's going to rain again tomorrow, but if it does, my toes will be celebrating despite icky weather.

I know nobody particularly likes to see closeups of feet... Or at least, I don't... so I tried to distract from the feet factor by going crazy with some contrast/brightness changes.

Day Four: nature meets fabric paint.

On my way back from class, I took a stroll by the sonoma state lakes (which are, may I add, my favorite spot on campus) and decided that I needed some nature-lovin' yes energy to meet my craft-lovin' yes energy. I plucked a beautiful leaf from a tree, and decided that I was going to use it as a stencil of some sort. Unfortunately, it was wilted by the time I returned from target with a $5 t shirt and some paint, but I found nature right in my own backyard.

Picture of result to come tomorrow! I know you're excited.

<3.

As promised! I had a blast making this.

Day Three- haiku.

An afternoon stroll
Gold sun, setting quietly
I say: goodnight, day.
..........
'Tis aromatic.
Coffee beans, crunched noisily
Make mornings magic.
..........
Procrastination.
College student's way of life.
Real world... here I come.

Day Two- cupcakes.

Spring is here! Strawberries are quickly coming into season, and I thought that was reason enough to celebrate. Plus, who doesn't love chocolate?

They didn't even plan to all match. But look how much fun they're having! I love my roommates.

Day One- watercolor.

Cannot find camera at the moment... but my first day of creativity resulted in a 45 minutes session of painting flowers in the sunshine. Will post as soon as I find camera!

Alright, borrowed Tali's camera, and here is the result of my fabulous painting hour. :)

I call it "friends." Don't they look like friends?
